Your final examination is monitored. This page explains when the examination window opens, what happens while you write, what is monitored, and what to do if something goes wrong. Read it before your examination window opens, not on the morning.
1. What the examination is worth
Your final evaluation is one part of your final mark. For Grades 9 and 10 it is worth 20 per cent, and for Grades 11 and 12 it is worth 25 per cent. Classroom work is worth 65 per cent, and attendance and participation makes up the remainder. The exact figures for your own course are shown on your course page in the student portal. A small number of courses are structured differently, and your course page is always the authoritative figure.
2. When you can sit the examination
There is no booking. Your examination is open for a set window of two school days, during school hours Eastern time. You may begin at any point within that window. You will be told the dates before the window opens.
You sit the examination once. Once you submit, it locks and cannot be reopened.
If you cannot sit the examination within the window for a documented reason, contact the school office. The Registrar will arrange a new window. 3. Before you begin
Check your equipment. You need a working webcam, microphone and a stable internet connection. Full details are on the Minimum System and Software Requirements page. If your equipment does not meet the requirements, tell the school office before the window opens.
Have your photo identification with you.
Find somewhere quiet where you will not be interrupted for the full length of the examination. 4. What is monitored
You are told this in advance so there are no surprises.
School staff are available throughout the examination window, and the system notifies them when you begin.
The examination system takes three photographs through your webcam at different points while you write. Staff check these against the photo identification the school already holds on your student record, and verify your connection details.
The system also records attempts to leave the examination window or open another tab, and your IP address and session details. Copying, pasting and right-clicking are disabled inside the examination.
Every student receives questions in a different order, drawn from a larger bank, so no two papers are identical.
Your result is not released until the identity and connection check is complete.
These records are kept with your result and form part of your assessment record. They are handled in accordance with the school's Privacy Policy.
5. What is not allowed
Another person completing any part of your work. A second device of any kind during the examination. Notes or materials unless your teacher has told you in writing that the examination is open-book. Automated problem-solving tools, including generative AI and photo-based solvers.
6. If a concern is raised
If the system flags something, the identity check does not pass, or staff record a concern, your result is held and referred to the Principal. Your mark is not released while it is reviewed. You will be told, and you will be given the chance to explain before any decision is made. If you disagree with the outcome, you can appeal under the school's Dispute Resolution and Academic Appeals Process. 7. If something goes wrong technically
If you lose your connection or the examination stops working, stop and contact the school office immediately on 905-326-0045 or at admissions@amcantech.org. Do not close the window and start again. Tell staff what happened and what you saw on screen.
8. Questions
Contact the school office before your examination window opens if anything on this page is unclear. Telephone 905-326-0045 or email admissions@amcantech.org.
